Old Dispensary
This is a 19th century charitable dispensary, also known as ‘Ithnashiri Dispensary’, served during colonial times in the first half of the 20th century. It’s a symbol of the multi-cultural architecture and heritage, one of Zanzibar’s finest architectural landmarks. The sculpted clock tower dispensary is located on the seafront, near Ferry Terminal on Mizingani Road, halfway between the Palace Museum and the harbour. It is known as the Stone ‘Town Cultural Centre’, with ornate carved balconies, stucco work, covered courtyard and carved bridges connecting all the three floors.
