The Old Fort
One of the oldest and most famous tourist attractions in Stone Town is the Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe), built in late 17th century by the Omanis to defend the island from the Portuguese. It is also known as the Arab Fort. The Old Fort is set adjacent to House of Wonders facing seafront. The building hosts large events such as Festival of the Dhow Countries (Zanzibar International Film Festival) and the Sauti Za Busara, attracting thousands of tourists and locals every year. The venue is open every day hosting open-air shows, presenting live music and dance.
